Eating out and travelling on compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide without losing muscle
Eating out and travelling on compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide go wrong in the same way: the day contains plenty of food and almost no protein. The fixes are small and mechanical. Order the protein and eat it first, before the bread and the sides fill the little room you have. Pack shelf-stable protein so an airport or a delayed lunch never costs you a meal. Keep the two 30-minute strength sessions in a hotel room with bodyweight moves. Anything about carrying, storing or timing your medication is a question for your pharmacist or prescriber.
Your number, before anything else
Protein is what decides whether the weight you lose is fat or muscle. Work your number out once and we will keep it with you on every page here. No account, no email.

Why a week away costs more than a week at home
At home you have your fridge, your routine and your yoghurt. Away, meals arrive on someone else's schedule and in someone else's order: bread first, entree second, the protein last, by which point on compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide you are full. People we coach come home from a week's holiday having eaten constantly and averaged 45 g of protein a day. Compounded products behave like the branded versions on appetite, but because doses vary, the pattern you read about online may not match yours. Track what you actually eat rather than what you expect to eat.
One week rarely matters. Four holidays and a run of restaurant dinners across a year does, because the weekly protein average is what protects muscle, not any single meal. Pooled across 20 randomised trials, the lean share of weight lost was 35.2% on semaglutide and 25.4% on tirzepatide, against 26.2% when the same weight came off by diet alone, and 17.5% when resistance training was added. The other half is training. Two missed weeks of strength work is when the strength test starts to slide, and it is much cheaper to do twenty minutes in a hotel room than to rebuild later.
Compounded products can have different storage requirements from the branded pens, so ask the pharmacy that supplied yours before you travel. The food plan is the same: protein first, packed protein in the bag.
What to measure instead of trusting the scale
A trip shows up in the weekly average, not in one meal. These three keep it visible.
One strength test, same way every week
Goblet squat reps at a fixed weight, push-ups, or the 30-second sit-to-stand for beginners. Fat loss does not make you weaker, so a number that drops three or four weeks running is a real signal, and it is fixable. It measures what you can do, not how much muscle you have.
Average protein a day, whole week
Not your best day. 1.2 to 1.6 g per kg of goal body weight (0.55 to 0.7 g per lb), floor 1.2, protein first at every meal.
Upper arm tape, same spot, relaxed
Centimetres or inches. The waist shrinks whatever you do; if the arm shrinks as fast, that is muscle. Weight is number four, same day and time. The scale tells you what you lost. These tell you what you kept.
How to handle restaurants and trips
Order the protein first and eat it first
Look at the menu for the grilled fish, the steak, the chicken, the eggs. Ask for it to come first or with the starters. On a small appetite, whatever arrives first is what gets eaten.
Skip the bread and the fried starter, not the main
Bread, chips and creamy dips take up the room and bring almost no protein. Fat also sits longest in a slow stomach, which is what makes a restaurant meal feel rough two hours later.
Pack protein that needs no fridge
Tuna or salmon pouches, jerky or biltong, single-serve protein powder sachets, roasted chickpeas, nuts, long-life milk. Three sachets and two pouches in a bag is 100 g of insurance.
Keep two sessions, wherever you are
Ten bodyweight squats, ten bench or wall push-ups, ten hip hinges, a 30-second plank, a suitcase carry down the corridor, three times around. Twenty minutes, twice a week, no equipment.
Confirm storage and travel rules with your pharmacy
Compounded products vary, so ask the pharmacy that dispensed yours how to carry it and what to do if it gets warm. Then pack the protein: pouches, sachets and long-life milk.
A travel day that still hits 100 g
- Before you leave: 200 g (7 oz) Greek yoghurt with seeds, about 22 g protein
- Airport or roadside: a protein powder sachet in 250 ml (8.5 fl oz) long-life milk, about 33 g
- In transit: a 100 g (3.5 oz) tuna pouch with crackers, about 25 g
- Dinner out: grilled chicken or fish, ordered first, about 35 g, with vegetables and a small side
Around 115 g on a day with no kitchen, no fridge and no cooking. Water at every stop, and salt on the evening meal, since travel plus low intake is where the headaches come from.
Work out your own target on Compounded semaglutide or tirzepatideAsk your pharmacist or prescriber before you travel
- How to carry and store your medication while travelling, including flights, heat and what to do if the cold chain is broken
- Whether crossing time zones changes anything about your schedule, which is their decision and never one to improvise
- What to do if you vomit repeatedly, cannot keep fluids down, or develop severe abdominal pain while away, and how to get care where you are going
Dose and timing on compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide are your prescriber's decisions; we coach the food and the strength.
Questions people ask
How do I eat at a restaurant on compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide?
Order the protein and have it brought early, skip the bread, and accept that you will take half of it home. A 150 g (5 oz) piece of fish eaten first is a better result than a full plate picked at.
What protein can I take on a plane?
Solid foods generally travel fine: tuna pouches, jerky, nuts, protein bars and powder sachets. Liquids over the security limit will not, so carry powder and buy the milk or water after security. Check the rules for your route.
Can I take a compounded GLP-1 overseas?
That depends on the product, the country and your prescription, so ask the prescribing service and the pharmacy well ahead. The eating plan needs no permission: order protein first and carry sachets.
The evidence, and how current it is
A week away does not change the target. These are the two numbers to order against.
Guideline-informed protein targets during this kind of weight loss start at 1.2 g per kg of body weight a day (0.55 g per lb). Arslan S, Clinical Nutrition ESPEN 2026
Spread across meals at roughly 0.3 to 0.4 g per kg per meal, rather than taken mostly at dinner. Arslan S, Clinical Nutrition ESPEN 2026
