Holidays and all-inclusive eating on Zepbound: a week away without losing muscle
A holiday is the one week where a buffet works in your favour: unlimited eggs, cheese, yoghurt, cold meats and grilled fish, taken in the portion you can actually finish. The risk on Zepbound is not overeating, it is the opposite, a week of pastries and cocktails because the protein was at the far end of the room. Plan two things and the rest looks after itself: protein first at every visit, and a walk most days. Anything about travelling with your medication, including storage and temperature, is a question for your pharmacist or prescriber before you fly.
Your number, before anything else
Protein is what decides whether the weight you lose is fat or muscle. Work your number out once and we will keep it with you on every page here. No account, no email.

The buffet is not the enemy
Most holiday advice is written for people whose problem is portion size. On a GLP-1 your problem is usually the reverse: too little food and too little protein in it. Tirzepatide is the medication where people most often describe a very short appetite window: a few bites, then done. Zepbound users tell us the food noise goes quiet almost entirely, which feels like freedom and removes every reminder to eat. A buffet, of all things, suits that well. You can take three slices of cheese, two eggs and a small piece of fish, sit down with a small plate, and leave what you cannot finish without paying for it or offending anybody.
Where holidays cost people muscle is the drift. Late breakfasts, no structure, a drink most afternoons, and a fortnight with almost no protein and no training. Pooled across 20 randomised trials, 25.4% of the weight lost on tirzepatide was lean mass, against 26.2% when the same weight came off by diet alone, and 17.5% when resistance training was added. Two weeks like that show up in the strength test when you get home, and rebuilding takes longer than the losing did.
On Zepbound the holiday risk is going eight hours in the heat with nothing eaten and then feeling wretched by the pool. Two reminders makes the week much better.
What to measure instead of trusting the scale
You will not be tracking on holiday, and you do not need to. Take these three the week before you go and the week you get back.
One strength test, same way every week
Goblet squat reps at a fixed weight, push-ups, or the 30-second sit-to-stand for beginners. Fat loss does not make you weaker, so a number that drops three or four weeks running is a real signal, and it is fixable. It measures what you can do, not how much muscle you have.
Average protein a day, whole week
Not your best day. 1.2 to 1.6 g per kg of goal body weight (0.55 to 0.7 g per lb), floor 1.2, protein first at every meal.
Upper arm tape, same spot, relaxed
Centimetres or inches. The waist shrinks whatever you do; if the arm shrinks as fast, that is muscle. Weight is number four, same day and time. The scale tells you what you lost. These tell you what you kept.
The holiday rules that actually work
Protein first at every buffet visit
Walk past the pastries and go to the eggs, the cold meats, the cheese, the yoghurt and the grilled fish. Fill a small plate there first, then add whatever else you feel like.
Pack a shaker and a bag of powder
A scoop in water in the room covers the days when the restaurant hours do not suit you or nothing on offer appeals. It weighs almost nothing and it saves the week.
Walk most days and do two short sessions
Twenty minutes of body weight work in the room, twice across the week, plus walking, holds most of what you have. Sit-to-stands, push-ups against the bed, hip hinges and a plank need no equipment at all.
Drink water between the drinks, and not only at night
Heat, alcohol and a small appetite together are what produce the holiday dizziness people describe to us. Fluid is the cheapest fix and the easiest thing to forget.
Set two eating reminders a day
Zepbound plus a holiday means no hunger cue and no routine. Two alarms is the whole intervention, and it prevents most of the flat afternoons people describe.
An all-inclusive day at about 100 g of protein
- Breakfast: two eggs, two slices of cheese or ham, and a small yoghurt, about 35 g
- Lunch: grilled fish or chicken from the hot counter with salad, about 30 g
- Afternoon: a shake in the room, about 25 g, on the days lunch did not happen
- Dinner: whatever appeals, protein taken first, and no obligation to finish the plate
Around 100 g of protein without measuring anything or refusing yourself a single thing. The holiday still feels like a holiday, and the strength test on the Monday you get back is unchanged.
Work out your own target on ZepboundSort these before you fly
- How to store and carry your medication, including temperature, flights and time zones, which is a pharmacist and prescriber question and needs asking well before departure
- What to do about a dose that is missed or delayed while you are away, which is theirs to answer and never a decision to take from a forum
- Travel insurance, documentation for a prescribed medication, and any letter you may need at a border
Dose and timing on Zepbound are your prescriber's decisions; we coach the food and the strength.
Questions people ask
Will a week away undo my progress on Zepbound?
Almost never. A week is a rounding error against a year and most people lose nothing. What costs you is a fortnight with no protein and no training, and both are easy to keep at a holiday level rather than a perfect one.
How do I eat at an all-inclusive on a small appetite?
Protein first at every visit, a small plate, and three or four visits rather than two. Eggs, cheese, cold meats, yoghurt and grilled fish are on every buffet in the world.
I forget to eat all day on holiday on Zepbound. Does it matter?
Yes, if it becomes the pattern. A whole day without protein in the heat is where the flat, dizzy afternoons come from. Two reminders and two protein stops fixes most of it.
The evidence, and how current it is
A buffet makes this easier, not harder, once you know which two numbers you are filling the plate against.
